STROKE

A stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain function(s) due to a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to ischemia (lack of blood supply) caused by thrombosis or embolism or due to a hemorrhage. As a result, the affected area of the brain is unable to function, leading to inability to move one or more limbs on one side of the body, inability to understand or formulate speech or inability to see one side of the visual field. In the past, stroke was referred to as cerebrovascular accident or CVA, but the term "stroke" is now preferred.[citation needed]

A stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage, complications and death. It is the leading cause of adult disability in the United States and Europe. In the UK, it is the second most common cause of death, the first being heart attacks and third being cancer. It is the number two cause of death worldwide and may soon become the leading cause of death worldwide. Risk factors for stroke include advanced age, hypertension (high blood pressure), previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), diabetes, high cholesterol, cigarette smokingatrial fibrillation. High blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor of stroke. and

The traditional definition of stroke, devised by the World Health Organization in the 1970s, is a "neurological deficit of cerebrovascular cause that persists beyond 24 hours or is interrupted by death within 24 hours". This definition was supposed to reflect the reversibility of tissue damage and was devised for the purpose, with the time frame of 24 hours being chosen arbitrarily. The 24-hour limit divides stroke from transient ischemic attack, which is a related syndrome of stroke symptoms that resolve completely within 24 hours. With the availability of treatments that, when given early, can reduce stroke severity, many now prefer alternative concepts, such as brain attack and acute ischemic cerebrovascular syndrome (modeled after heart attack and acute coronary syndrome respectively), that reflect the urgency of stroke symptoms and the need to act swiftly.

A stroke is occasionally treated with thrombolysis ("clot buster"), but usually with supportive care (speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy) in a "stroke unit" and secondary prevention with antiplatelet drugs (aspirin and often dipyridamole), blood pressure control, statins, and in selected patients with carotid endarterectomy and anticoagulation.

Occupational therapist

Stroke again (english)

Last Friday, January 16th, 2009, around 8.00 pm, I got stroke again. That time it hit my tongue. It happened, while I was driving home around BSD area; I felt numb in my mouth; I tasted nothing. I realized "I get stroke again."

The next Saturday, I was working as usual. I could taste cold, hot, and sour only. ha ha ha........

On Sunday, I went to Trio Sada Clinic/Karmel Stroke Foundation to treat that stroke. The doctor gave me two shots:
1. NGF (nerve growth factor)
2. Brainact

Monday, I was able to taste everything but sweet. That's alright man. Keep smiling, and I go to work as usual.

To keep stroke from coming back:
1. Stay slim.
2. Smiling - no stress.
3. Exercise

Pancake, panakoek..... pancious

Enaknya. Sip. Mak nyuss. Kenyang. Belum lagi french friesnya wah renyah. Cobalah.

Stroke (in english)

Tangerang, on September 2006, I got stroke. I forget the date was, on Sunday morning for sure. Suddenly I wasn’t able to speak, not even a simple word. I ran to mirror and seeing a strange face (my face is stretching to right side ha ha ha ha ha). Later, my beloved wife UV and my lovely daughter RV, drove me to hospital, RSPP Jakarta.

I had to take “opname” (a bed rest) for a week in “stroke unit”, thus, I studied I cannot move my fingers except pinky. No relatives “really” came over to visit, only my wife, daughter, and my mother; I could see thru their eyes. Thank goodness, I have other “relatives” (my colleague) came visit me almost every day. They cheered me up, gave me strength. Don’t you know a stroke patient need more mental building than taking any drug!

My wife became a bread-winner for following three months. I do physiotherapy, thanks to mom who finance my treatment, thanks to my wife who always by my side. I took stem-cell treatment. It cost me a fortune, almost US$200 per shot, that, I had to take a shot a day for first two-weeks. I took treatments at Klinik Trio Saba, at Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta. Finally, I was able to move my fingers and walk almost like normal person, let say 99% recovery.

Now I work again ha ha ha ha…….

I learn to do everything using my left hand, “kidal” (lefty). Still, I write using my right hand, though.

Do you know why I got stroke:
1. I did smoking.
2. Eating junk food.
3. Never exercise.
